This morning’s Skagit Valley Herald had a front page story with a picture of a guy I immediately recognized as our very own Francisco Lopez, whom the story identified as "a pastor at La Iglesia Episcopal de la Resurrección church in Mount Vernon.”
Francisco was guest principal in the Mount Vernon School District’s 11th annual “Principal for a Day” event. I have it on good authority that a certain priest at St.Paul’s will be similarly honored, but you didn’t hear it from me.
Quoting from the article,
“It was very important for me to know how students in this school are taught,” Lopez said through an interpreter.
Some of what he saw wasn’t surprising, Lopez said, because it was what he sees in his children’s classes. But it was different spending the whole day at the school.
Lopez said he was impressed that in classes at Madison, whether they are taught in English or Spanish, students use sign language to communicate ideas such as “yes,” “no,” or “use a full sentence.”
We know that Francisco is a vital part of the congregational life of our brothers and sisters at Resurrección, but he is also an important part of God’s work in our larger community. Both St. Paul’s and Resurrección are similarly blessed by Francisco’s presence.
