Hope to Carry On: March 17, 2024 (St. Patrick’s Day)

Lenten Devotional Book 2024

Read: Hebrews 5:5-10

“Although he was a Son, he learned obedience through what he suffered; and being made perfect he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him…” – Hebrews 5:8-9

When I saw this verse, I thought of this section of St. Patrick’s Breastplate:

Christ with me,
Christ before me,
Christ behind me,
Christ in me,
Christ beneath me,
Christ above me,
Christ on my right,
Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down,
Christ when I sit down,
Christ when I arise,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.

Christ suffered for all of us, and dying on the Cross means salvation. For me, that also means that Christ is with me in my day, and that gives me hope, especially when I am having a day where it seems like everything is going wrong.

Surround me, O God, and assure me of your presence. Amen.
