The congregation of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church is pleased to announce the appointment by the Episcopal Diocese of Olympia of its new priest-in-charge, The Reverend Canon Joan Anthony.
Canon Anthony has been a priest for 27 years — prior to which she pursued a career in the banking industry as both an auditor and lending officer. She retired from parish ministry in 2014, but once more embraced its challenge by becoming the full-time interim rector for Grace Bainbridge Island. She “re-retired” three years later, and at the request of Diocesan Bishop The Rt. Reverend Greg Rickel, has joined the congregation of St. Paul’s as its worship leader during this current phase of its evolution.
Arriving at St. Paul’s with Canon Joan is her Jack Russell Terrier, Dolly, who reportedly has never met a stranger.
St. Paul’s also recently commemorated the legacy of its previous rector, The Reverend Helen McPeak, who was instrumental in helping St. Paul’s through structural changes, ministering to the spiritual needs of not only its congregation, but also to the wider community of Mount Vernon, where she and her family continue to contribute their talent, energy, and love.
Sunday worship services led by Canon Anthony, including Holy Eucharist, take place on Sundays at 9:30 am at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, located at 415 S. 18th Street in Mount Vernon. For more information, call (360) 424-1822.
